YES to Derry~Londonderry

Posted on 15, Jul

A few months back we posted about the iPhone/iPod Touch App that we developed for the Derry~Londonderry’s UK City of Culture 2013 Bid.

Tonight live on the BBC One Show Derry~Londonderry were announced as the Winners!

A huge congratulations to the bid team, the people of the City and the County. From first hand we know that a huge amount of work went into the bid and this well deserved. It is a very proud moment for the City.

Check out the video footage recorded inside the cities Guildhall as the news was announced.

Also, a great watch is their official video Voices. The film was produced by the award winning arts organisation the Nerve Centre with contributions from Willie Doherty and Seamus Heaney. The film captures the vibrancy of the city’s cultural scene and gives voice and vision

Now what are you waiting for – Go and download the App for Free to keep up to date with all that is happening.

It has been a bumpy road for us both, maybe we said some things we didn’t mean, I hurt you, you hurt me. Now that I have my new toy in my arms I think we need to put this difficult time behind us and move on.

For anyone that is wondering, yes, the iPad is amazing. I wasn’t convinced before but now that I have seen one face to face, I am converted. Now if only I could get it back from my wife….

Stupid UPS

Posted on 28, May

OK, so now my venom is aimed at UPS. I no longer blame Newtownabbey, it was just a pawn in the game that UPS are playing with me.

Stupid brown van driving, brown jacket wearing iPad stealers.

Stupid Newtownabbey

Posted on 28, May

It isn’t that I have anything against Newtownabbey, it is just that my iPad has been stuck there since 21:43 last night. To begin with I wasn’t that excited about the iPad but now that launch day is here I want to play with all the cool new apps.

Knowing my luck it won’t be delivered until late tonight. At least I will have it tomorrow, I can use it as a distraction while my wife forces me to watch the Eurovision.

Posted on 19, Apr

if you ever have to set up SVN on a ubuntu server this is the guide to follow. There are loads of different places to get the information but this is the one that finally cracked it for me.

Linux admin

Posted on 18, Apr

In a past life I was responsible for admin of several Linux servers. Why is it that now that I need to do it again I have forgotten almost everything I ever knew?

This is where I start asking myself if it would be more cost effective to just pay for a managed service and just concentrate on my main job of writing iPhone apps.

I will keep you updated on my progress.

Welcome to 2010

Posted on 4, Jan

I hope that everyone had a great Christmas and New Year.  I am feeling refreshed and ready for action.  Deadlines are starting loom very large now, we are aiming for PhotoBag to be code complete on the 15th January so lots to do and very little time to do it in.

Wish me luck, after two weeks without writing a single line of code, I am going to need it.

On my travels through the app store this evening I came across a WordPress for the iPhone. I am using it to write the entry and so far it seems pretty good.

Certainly worth a look.

Hi from Gary

Posted on 28, Nov

Welcome to our new Website and Blog.

My Name is Gary and I am responsible for the Product Research, Design and Marketing of our App’s and Company. It is and will be a tricky job in hand but don’t we all love a challenge!

By day I am a freelance Developer and Technical Consultant based in London, UK but I am committing every other hour possible to Paper Bag as we drive to do the same as any other Start Up Business and realise our dream.

Paper Bag is focused on developing unique, fully-functional and polished applications for mobile devices. At the moment we are concentrating on building App’s for the iPhone/iPod Touch as we feel they are the front-runner in the Mobile space at the moment (check out Distimo Blog which is a clever analytic’s tool for comparisons across all providers App Stores). However, we are keeping a very close eye on their competitors as you can by no means ignore the chasing pack!

Paper Bag currently has two app’s on the Apple App Store which are Suntimes and Veg Garden which were built by Stuart (Paper Bag Lead Developer) as a hobby that taught him a lot in terms of building Mobile App’s and the strict Apple App Store approval process.

I have joined forces with Stuart for next upcoming App called PhotoBag. The intention of this app is to be a Camera Roll organiser with a Twist (more to be revealed soon)! We are very excited about PhotoBag and deep into development of it at the moment.

With over 100,000 app’s on the Apple App Store now it is a very competitive space and growing at an unbelievable speed. New Mobile Application start-up’s are rolling out each day so we really do have a challenge ahead of us but through this Blog I intend to give you an insight into my perspective on Marketing iPhone applications and generally the up’s and down’s of our journey as a start-up. So stay tuned and have a nice day!
